LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY - MASS SPECTROMETER
Model: Waters ZQ-4000
(Installed in 2005)

Liquid chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (LC-MS) is a technique which combines high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with mass spectroscopy. In this instrument ionization at atmospheric pressure is achieved by "electrospray ionization" (ESI) & "atmospheric pressure chemical ionization" (APCI) techniques. Both are soft ionization technique and compatible with most chromatographic separations.

Applications:
Quantitative analysis, impurity profiling, metabolite studies, pharmacokinetics, pharma and biomedical applications etc.

Specifications:
Mass Range: 20 - 4000 Da
Resolution: 0.2 Da
Ionisation method: ESI, APCI
Analyser: Single quadrupole
Detector: Off-axis Dynolite photomultiplier
Vacuum system: Split flow turbo-molecular source pump (160lts/sec) and two stage rotary backing pump
Computer: Pentium 4 Processor based Compaq system and Windows NT OS
Software: MassLynx 4.0
Solvents: Methanol, Acetonitrile, Dichloromethane, water and chloroform
Unsuitable solvents: Solvents like dimethyl formamide (DMF) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) cannot be used for high viscosity. Default system used here is 50:50 mixture of methanol and water with 0.1% acetic acid added for protonation.
Instructions to users: Minimum of 500 µg of sample should be sent for analysis.
